The North Carolina Highway Patrol telecommunicator position is a career dedicated to the safety of the citizens while becoming a lifeline to responding law enforcement officers.

Patrol Telecommunicator Salary Grade 63 ($27,310-$42,424)

Minimum - 18 years as of date of application.

Physical Condition
Be able to speak clearly, hear effectively, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and be able to respond under stressful conditions.

As a minimum, an applicant must have graduated from an accredited high school. College or university level education desired.

Special Qualifications
Must have sufficient experience to demonstrate an ability to work efficiently under pressure situations. Work involves operating multi-channel telecommunications consoles receiving messages from field personnel, relaying messages according to agency procedures, and transmitting replies or other information to field personnel. Typing is required.

Criminal History
Must not have pled guilty, entered a plea of no contest, or have been convicted of any crime other than a minor misdemeanor.

Background Investigation
Must satisfactorily pass a thorough background investigation, including a check of local, state, and Federal Bureau of Investigation records.

The ability to obtain and maintain Division of Criminal Information (DCI) terminal operator certification.

Work weekly rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
