GOVERNOR'S CRIME COMMISSION ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS OF
2001 CRIME PREVENTION AWARDS |
RALEIGH - The Governor's Crime Commission, a division of the N.C. Department of Crime Control & Public Safety, recently announced that fifteen agencies, organizations and individuals will receive the 2001 Crime Prevention Awards. Among the awards presented were the new Excellence in Juvenile Crime Prevention Awards.
"We are proud to honor these leaders who have worked so hard to make North Carolina a safer place to live," said Linda Hayes, chairperson of the Governor's Crime Commission. "We are particularly proud to present our Juvenile Crime Prevention Awards which recognize leaders in this very important area."
The recipients and the category they received an award in are as follows: High Point Police Department, large law enforcement agency; Hillsborough Police Department, small law enforcement agency; Steve Hall of the Durham Police Department, and Tommy Campbell of the Statesville Police Department, law enforcement officers; Moses Best of Fayetteville, community watch; Evelyn Taylor, Greensboro Housing Authority, and Nancy Walker of the Laurinburg Housing Authority, public housing agency; Durham County Sheriff's Office, older adult program; Nat Walker of Thomasville, citizen; High Point Police Department, Partnership Juvenile Crime Prevention Program; Hillsborough Police Department, juvenile crime prevention program; John Dankel of Asheville, business; Justin Spear, Dunn Police Department, youth program; Charlotte/Mecklenburg Police Department, education; and, Chapel Hill Chamber of Commerce, business.
The Governor's Crime Commission is the chief advisory board to the Governor and the CCPS Secretary for the development and implementation of criminal justice policy. Its mission is to improve the quality of life of the citizens of North Carolina, enhance public safety, and reduce and prevent crime by improving the criminal justice system.
