Highway Patrol Troopers charged drivers with 308 violations during a one-day speed reduction campaign on I-40/I-85 last Friday, June 14, 2002. Here is a breakdown of the charges:
In Guilford County: 26 speeding over 75, 49 speeding 65-75, 1 reckless driving, 1 stop sign, 38 seat belt violations, 5 child restraints, 3 driving with license suspended or revoked, 3 no driver license, 2 following too close, 7 equipment violations, and 13 other charges. Total 148.
In Orange County: 55 speeding over 75, 4 speeding 65-75, 1 underage drinking, 51 seat belt violations, 3 reckless driving, 7 no driver license, 4 driving with license suspended or revoked, 2 following too close, 1 improper passing,1 stop sign, and 31 other charges. Total 160.
The purpose of this special emphasis is to crack down on aggressive drivers in en effort to reduce collisions. These interstates are typically the heaviest traveled corridors in North Carolina. The Patrol will conduct additional special enforcement campaigns as needed.
