JOHNSTON COUNTY TROOPER INJURED IN CRASH

RALEIGH – A State Highway Patrol trooper was injured early this morning when he crashed his Patrol car while on his way to assist another officer. There were no other cars involved in the crash and no one else was injured.

At approximately 12:40 this morning, Trooper Michael G. Conley, C648, was called to assist a Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy with a chase. He was enroute to the chase when he wrecked. Conley was headed west on US 70 just west of Selma when he rounded a long, sweeping left curve. He lost control of his 2000 Ford Crown Victoria in the curve and flipped across the median, coming to rest in the eastbound lane of US 70. (1/2 mile west of Buffalo Road, RP 1003) The car flipped several times. Conley was wearing his seatbelt, which kept him from being ejected from the car, and had his blue light and siren activated.

Trp. Conley was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was treated for cuts, bruises and contusions, and was released from the hospital earlier today. A Highway Patrol reconstruction team will begin work on determining the cause of the accident on Monday. No other information is available at this time.

Conley, age 27, is stationed in Johnston County. He joined the Patrol in July 2000.
