RALEIGH – The Highway Patrol has filed charges against a Selma woman in the crash that injured the woman and a Johnston County Sheriff’s Deputy yesterday. The crash occurred around 11:30 Friday morning on rural paved road 1003, a two-lane road known as Buffalo Road, just north of Selma in Johnston County.
The investigation shows that the car driven by Sandra Shepherd Solomon of Selma was traveling south on Buffalo Road when it hydroplaned on the wet roads and skidded across the centerline. Lt. Roger Morris Benson of the Sheriff’s Department was traveling in the northbound lane. He attempted to avoid Solomon’s car but was unable to do so and his patrol car hit Solomon’s car in the right front quarter panel.
Ms. Solomon was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. Both drivers were taken to Wake Medical Center with serious injuries.
Ms. Solomon has been charged with exceeding a safe speed, traveling left of center, and not wearing a seat belt.
