RALEIGH – The Highway Patrol is investigating a wreck in Johnston County this afternoon that resulted in serious injuries to 16 year old girl and her 13-day old niece. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Highway 301 near State Road 2330, also known as Browns Dairy Road.
The initial investigation shows that 17 year old Crystal Dawn Ramirez, of Kenly, was driving a 2002 Kia when she apparently lost control and ran off the road to the right and into a creek. The car hit the creek bank and overturned, coming to rest on its roof.
Ramirez was able to free herself from the car and get help. The Highway Patrol was dispatched at 2:33 to the scene. The passenger, Sylvia Ann Ramirez, 16, the sister of Crystal, and the driver’s 13-day old daughter, Maria Ramirez, were taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital. The driver, Crystal, was treated and released. Sylvia and Maria were later airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Trooper D.W. Green is still investigating the crash and there are no charges at this time. More information will be released when it becomes available.
