Highway Patrol Troopers charged drivers with 557 violations during a one-day speed reduction campaign on I-40/I-85 yesterday in the Triangle and Triad areas of the state. Here is a breakdown of the charges:
In the Triangle area: 170 speeding violations, 3 reckless driving, 4 driving with license suspended or revoked, 13 following too close, and 111 other charges. Total 301.
In the Triad area: 148 speeding violations, 1 reckless driving, 6 driving with license suspended or revoked, 9 following too close, and 91 other charges. Total 255.
The purpose of this special emphasis is to crack down on aggressive drivers in an effort to reduce collisions. These interstates are typically the heaviest traveled corridors in North Carolina. The Patrol will conduct additional special enforcement campaigns in the future.
