EASLEY APPOINTS INGRAM AS ADJUTANT GENERAL OF N.C. NATIONAL GUARD

Col. Ingram

RALEIGH -- Gov. Mike Easley appointed Col. William E. Ingram, Jr., of Williamston to serve as the Adjutant General of the North Carolina National Guard.

"Col. Ingram is a strong leader with a distinguished career of service in the North Carolina National Guard," Easley said.

Ingram will assume the Adjutant General position on July 16. The position is currently held by Maj. Gen. Gerald A. Rudisill, Jr., who is leaving to begin a two-year active duty tour at the Pentagon.

"North Carolina's citizens are proud of our North Carolina National Guard," said Secretary of the N.C. Department of Crime Control & Public Safety (CCPS) Bryan E. Beatty. The National Guard is a division of CCPS. "Our citizen soldiers provide a valuable service to the state during natural disasters and to our country during times of conflict. Col. Ingram will continue the tradition of strong leadership in the Guard."

Ingram has 31 years of service in the National Guard; 29 years as an officer. He has served in leadership positions at every level. He holds the unique distinction of having commanded two peacekeeping missions in the Balkans, which included more than 1,400 active and reserve component soldiers. He also served as the United Nations Chief of Staff in Macedonia, and with the 1st Infantry Division as a task force commander in Macedonia.

Ingram is currently serving as Director of the Tarheel State Task Force for the North Carolina Army National Guard. From 1975 to 1998, he served as the General Manager and corporate Secretary and Treasurer of N.C. Green Oil Company, a petroleum-marketing firm in Williamston.

Ingram is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College (Commandant's List) and a 1997 graduate of the United States Army War College. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Chemistry from North Carolina State University in 1970.

Ingram and his wife, Lil, have three sons, Turner, Matt and Walker. Ingram is the son of the late Maj. Gen. William Emmett Ingram, who was Adjutant General of the North Carolina National Guard from 1977 to 1983, and Betty G. Ingram of Elizabeth City.
