RALEIGH - Funeral services for North Carolina Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Bobby Franklin who died in combat in Baghdad, Iraq, last week have been set for Saturday.
The Franklin family will receive friends during a visitation Friday evening.
Franklin, 38, of Mineral Bluff, Ga., not far from the North Carolina border, died Aug. 20 when an improvised explosive device exploded near a vehicle in which he and two other soldiers were riding. The other soldiers were not seriously injured. All were assigned to Detachment 2 of the 210th Military Police Company, headquartered in Murphy, N.C. An 18-year National Guard veteran, Franklin leaves behind a wife, a son and a daughter.
Condolences and flowers may be sent to the family through the funeral home.
