ALE MAKES SUNDAY ALCOHOL AND VIDEO POKER CHECKS

HIGH POINT - Four N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement agents and one High Point police officer conducted Sunday morning alcohol and video poker checks on June 29. Of the 68 locations checked, only one convenience store was found selling alcohol and three locations were permitting video poker.

North Carolina law prohibits the sale of alcohol from 2 a.m. until noon on Sundays. Video poker is prohibited from midnight Saturday until 7 a.m. Monday.

“We were very pleased that people are adhering to the Sunday morning no-sale alcohol laws,” said, ALE District Supervisor, Rodney Johnson. “With the limited resources at ALE, we’re always glad when people are voluntarily complying with the law.”

Store clerk, Parvez Bhuiyan, 43, was cited for selling alcohol at the Horn Red Dot, a convenience store at 345 Ennis Street.

Three people were cited for allowing the operation of video gaming machines on a Sunday morning. Boulath Thanongsack, 41, was working at the Asian Market on 2931 E. Kivett Drive. Tracey Smith, 30, worked at Green Oak Pub, 520 W. Green St. and Sum Van, 46, worked at the Hong Phat Store, 219 E. Fairfield Dr.

ALE agents make periodic checks on businesses to enforce the state’s alcohol, tobacco and gaming laws.
