ALCOHOL LAW ENFORCEMENT TO CONDUCT ALCOHOL TRAINING
|
WINSTON SALEM -- The North Carolina Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) will be conducting "Be A Responsible Server" (BARS) programs for merchants that sell alcoholic beverages in the Winston-Salem area. These programs are scheduled for August 22 and 29, 2002, at 3:00 p.m., at the Ramada Plaza Coliseum, 3050 University Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC.
As reflected in the program's name, the focus is on the responsible service of alcoholic beverages, particularly relating to preventing sales to underage and intoxicated persons. The length of the programs will be approximately one hour.
The programs are being conducted at this time at the request of Wake Forest University, the North Carolina School of the Arts, Winston-Salem State University, and the Forsyth County Coalition for Drug Abuse Prevention. These institutions are utilizing the BARS program as one method to combat the high-risk use of alcoholic beverages by their students.
Last year Wake Forest University and the North Carolina School of the Arts each received Collaborative Alcohol Management Project for University Success (C.A.M.P.U.S.) Campus-Community Coalition Mini-Grants from the North Carolina Initiative to Reduce Underage Drinking to address the problems of high-risk drinking among their college students.
ALE, a Division of the N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, is charged by the General Statutes with enforcing alcohol beverage control and drug laws. The Division puts special emphasis on the possession and use of alcohol by underage persons, and the prevention of violent crime due to alcohol and drug abuse.
