THE PAVILLION LOSES PERMIT TO SELL ALCOHOL |
FAYETTEVILLE-Owners of The Pavillion nightclub today turned in their ABC permits to agents with the N.C. Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE). The Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Commission earlier revoked the business's permits after declaring it unsuitable to hold ABC permits.
Cumberland County ABC submitted the violation to the state ABC Commission that resulted in today's action. ALE Agent D. J. Hale assisted in drafting the violation after a request for assistance was made by County ABC Chief John Russell.
The Pavillion will no longer be able to sell alcohol because of the permanent revocation. The decision can be appealed to Superior Court. No appeal has been filed at this time. The Pavillion is owned by Alliance Corporation of Fayetteville, Inc., and is located at 2527 Gillespie St., Fayetteville.
Local law enforcement officers responded to more than 83 calls for service at The Pavillion since August of 1999. Those calls included complaints of shots fired, assaults, drug activity, possession of stolen weapons, numerous fights, cuttings, and drunk and disorderly conduct.
ALE is charged by the General Statutes with enforcing ABC laws and the Controlled Substances Act. The division's 115 sworn agents have statewide authority to enforce drug laws and laws dealing with the legal and illegal manufacture, sale, consumption, distribution and transportation of alcoholic beverages. The Division puts special emphasis on the possession and use of alcohol by underage persons, and the prevention of violent crime due to alcohol abuse.
