EM Employee Receives Department Award |
RALEIGH-Ellerbe native, Douglas M. Boyd recently received the North Carolina Department of Crime Control & Public Safety's (CC&PS) second-highest achievement award. Bryan Beatty, CC&PS secretary, presented the Department's Meritorious Service Award today at a ceremony in Raleigh. Boyd is the Temporary Housing Chief for the N.C. Division of Emergency Management, which is one of ten divisions in CC&PS.
"Doug helped lead our state's recovery effort after Hurricane Floyd," said Beatty. "He created the state's temporary housing program that provided homes for more than 8,000 people whose residences were destroyed during Floyd."
Boyd was appointed Chief of the Temporary Housing Section shortly after Hurricane Floyd hit North Carolina. He supervises more than 80 people and oversees more than $80 million in federal and state monies.
"North Carolina had never needed this much temporary housing before Floyd," said Eric Tolbert, director of the Division of Emergency Management. "Therefore, Doug had to essentially create this section from scratch and he built it into a first-class operation that has helped thousands of families in this state."
The Meritorious Service Award is CC&PS's second-highest award for achievement. It is presented to individuals who clearly demonstrate outstanding service to their profession in the areas of devotion to duty, innovation, public service and/or human relations. Employees are nominated to receive Department Awards by fellow employees. All nominations are reviewed by a committee consisting of representatives of each of the Department's Divisions, and then approved by the Secretary.
