RE: Highway Patrol to Crack Down on Aggressive Driving on US-17

Beginning July 3, 2002, the Highway Patrol in Troop B will be conducting a speed reduction campaign on US 17 to combat aggressive driving. Troopers from surrounding counties that make up Troop B will converge on US 17 in Brunswick County. Alcohol Law Enforcement Agents and the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office will be participating in the event.

On Wednesday, July 3rd at 4:00 p.m., members of the media are invited to the Bolivia Highway Patrol Station, at the Government Complex, US 17 Business, Bolivia, where Troop Commander Captain Gregory Hayes will meet with the Troopers and brief them for this assignment.

The purpose of this special emphasis is to crack down on aggressive drivers, and enforce the traffic laws of the state. This year there have been 116 traffic collisions on US 17 with alcohol related collisions increasing 57 percent. The Highway Patrol's Camaros are being used because of their low visibility and dual antenna radar that have the ability to clock vehicles as they approach the Trooper.
