| RE: | Traffic around the N.C. Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 19, 2002 |
|
The State Highway Patrol is advising that traffic near the North Carolina State Fairgrounds, Carter Finley Stadium, and the RBC Arena is going to be heavy and parking will be difficult on Saturday. The State Fair gates open at 9:00 a.m. and the kickoff for the N.C. State vs. Duke football game is at noon. The Carolina Hurricanes hockey game begins at 7:00 p.m. Motorist should use the following routes depending on the venue they are attending: NCSU v. Duke Football Game: I-40 to Wade Avenue to Edwards Mill Extension.
The City of Raleigh and the North Carolina Department of Transportation have determined that parking will not be allowed along streets immediately surrounding these venues. Signs have been posted prohibiting parking and warning motorists that violators will be towed away from posted areas along Wade Avenue, Blue Ridge Road, Hillsborough Street, Trinity Road, and Youth Center Road. The Highway Patrol is recommending that people carpool, take vans, or use the CAT bus "Park and Ride" system because parking will be at a premium. We are also asking that everyone plan for delays getting into the area, and have patience with each other and with the troopers who are directing traffic. It is also recommended that motorists not attending these events avoid the area completely on Saturday or use alternate routes. If you have questions, please contact the Public Affairs Office at (919) 733-5027. ###
