GOV. EASLEY'S STATEMENT REGARDING THREATS ANNOUNCED TODAY

"North Carolina's security and emergency response agencies were made aware of the latest statement by the federal government. North Carolina, like the rest of the country, has been on a heightened state of alert since mid-October when the war against terrorism began in Afghanistan.

"Among the steps that have been taken:

Security is in place at state facilities and other locations across the state;

The National Guard is overseeing security at the state's 12 commercial airports;

All law enforcement agencies in the state have been placed on high alert; and

All locations with potential vulnerability have been advised to put additional security measures in place. "

Should any facility in North Carolina receive a credible threat, we will take the appropriate action to further secure the area for the safety of the public. In addition, I will advise the people of North Carolina of any specific or additional information that is given to us."
