|
The Governor's Crime Commission will hold its regular quarterly meeting this Thursday and Friday at the Commission office at 1201 Front Street in Raleigh. The meeting begins March 15th at 1:00 p.m. and will end by 5:00 p.m. On Friday, March 16th, the Commission meets from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Governor Mike Easley will meet with the Commission for the first time in his administration at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, following the swearing in of new members. He will give his charge to the Commission, and discuss the proposal to establish more alternative learning programs for suspended and expelled students across the state as mentioned in his State of the State address. On Friday at the top of the meeting, the N.C. Child Advocacy Institute will present a manual on child abuse investigations and advocacy that is the first of its kind in the country. The Governor's Crime Commission paid for the creation of the manual. The Commission is the chief advisory board to the Governor for the development and implementation of criminal justice policy. Its mission is to improve the quality of life of North Carolina's citizens, enhance public safety, and reduce and prevent crime by improving the criminal justice system. The agenda for both days is attached, and you are invited to cover any or all of the meeting. If you need more information, please call my office at 919-733-5027. |
