| RE: | N.C. Emergency Management Officials Will Hold Two Meetings for Allison Victims |
|
N.C. Emergency Management officials will hold two meetings next week for residents in areas recently flooded by the remnants of Tropical Storm Allison to go over the options that are available to them under the state's hazard mitigation program. Residents in the communities of Speed in Edgecombe County and Ahoskie in Hertford County experienced flooding as a result of heavy rains on June 16th. Since these counties were declared disaster areas after Hurricane Floyd, residents in the towns may be eligible for the mitigation program, which buys homes in the floodplain so the residents can move to areas that are not prone to flooding. The state is already in the process of buying 24 homes in Speed, and will encourage others in the community to join the program.
The date, time and location of the meetings are:
Speed Monday, June 25th, 7:00 p.m. Fire Station Ahoskie Wednesday, June 27th, 7:00 p.m. Hertford County High School Cafeteria Please share this information with your readers, viewers and listeners in the affected areas. If you have any questions, please call my office at 919-733-5027. |
