Volunteering in North Carolina

North Carolinians have a long history of volunteering to help those less fortunate and especially following a disaster.  The North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism & Community Service is housed in the Governor's Office.  The Commission's mission is "to foster an ethic of volunteerism and community service in North Carolina people of all ages and backgrounds."

Following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the Citizen Corps was created as a way for Americans to coordinate volunteer activities that will make our communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to any emergency situation. The ReadyNC.org website was created with Citizen Corps funds from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
