TWO MEN ARRESTED AND ANOTHER BEING SOUGHT FOR SHOOTING AT ALE AGENT IN WILLIAMSTON
RALEIGH – Two men have been arrested and a third is being sought for allegedly firing at an N.C. Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement agent in Williamston on Jan. 22. The agent was not injured.
Police are looking for Delvanti Rodgers of 110 Hill St., Williamston. He is a 27-year-old black male.
ALE has arrested Delauno Corey, 30, of 102 Willow Drive, Williamston and Jonathan Wyche, 21, of 707 Hyman St., Williamston. They are charged with discharging a weapon into occupied property and assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm. Both are being held in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail; Corey on a $500,000 secured bond, and Wyche on a $300,000 bond.
The weapon that was allegedly used in the shooting and recovered is a .22-caliber Ruger handgun that had been stolen out of a Johnston County residence in 2005.
It was late Friday (Jan. 22) evening when the ALE agent observed three young males purchase alcohol at the Williamston Stop ‘n Shop and walk away. The agent, who intended to check their identifications, drove slowly past them and heard gunshots. He saw a muzzle flash in his rearview mirror, turned on his blue lights and backed towards the suspects, hearing two more shots as he did so. The three suspects ran into a nearby cemetery and escaped through a fence.
The agent called for law enforcement back-up, and the N.C. State Highway Patrol, Williamston Police Department, Martin County Sheriff's Department and other ALE agents responded to the scene. Six shell casings were recovered that night.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Delvanti Rodgers should call Martin County Crime Stoppers at (252) 792-8800 or local law enforcement.
