Joint ALE and Sheriff's Department Drug Investigation Yields 9 Arrests in Tyrrell County

COLUMBIA – Nine Columbia residents have been arrested following a joint drug investigation by the North Carolina Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement and the Tyrrell County Sheriff's Department.

Charges include cocaine and marijuana possession and sale, selling a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park (Columbia Municipal Park on Fonsoe Street) and loitering for prostitution. The N.C. State Highway Patrol, State Bureau of Investigation and Washington County Sheriff's Department assisted in the arrests.

“We're aggressively trying to address illegal drugs in our communities across the state,” said John Ledford, director of ALE. “This investigation is continuing and we expect more arrests.”

Tyrrell County Sheriff Darryl Liverman said that, “This is a good example of ALE working with local law enforcement to combat the sale of illegal drugs.”

The following people were arrested:

Steven D. Childress, 22, of 453 Road St. Extension charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, one count of sell and deliver cocaine and two counts of sale of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park.

Eddie L. Collins Jr., 41, of 314 Fonsoe St. charged with one count of possession with intent to sell cocaine and one count of sale of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park.

Carolyn D. Gray, 54, of 402 S. Road St. charged with two counts of conspiracy to sell cocaine, two counts of maintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substance.

Darius S. Hassell, 23, of 306 A Scottsdale St. charged with one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and one count of sell and deliver of marijuana.

Bobby J. Moore, 22, of 3172 Chapel Hill Road charged with three counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, one count possession with intent to sell marijuana and four counts of sale of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park.

Milton N. Moore, 48, of 402 S. Road St. charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and two counts of sale and deliver of cocaine.

Ciara S. Spencer, 23, of 813 Chapel Hill Road charged with one count of loitering for prostitution.

Steven D. Spruill, 28, of Basnight Lane charged with one count of sell and deliver of cocaine, one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and one count of maintaining a vehicle for the sale of a controlled substance. A 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe was seized from Spruill.

Roosevelt C. Waller, 19, 1001 Secotia Village charged with one count of possession with intent to sell cocaine, one count of sale of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park, one count of possession with intent to sell a controlled substance and one count of sell and deliver of a controlled substance.
