Highway Patrol to Conduct Operation Road Watch in Surry County
The Highway Patrol will conduct Operation Road Watch beginning Tuesday, April 28 at 6:00 a.m. in Surry County. Road Watch is a 48 hour multi-agency enforcement event that focuses on commercial motor vehicle inspections with an emphasis on commercial motor vehicle driver violations, aggressive driving around commercial motor vehicles, unsecured load violations, hazardous materials being transported across state boundaries and motor carrier fuel violations.
The goal of Road Watch is to reduce collisions involving big trucks and other vehicles. Troopers will conduct safety inspections on commercial motor vehicles on I-77 in Surry County and other highways in the area during the operation.
A press event will be held on Tuesday, April 28, at 12:15 p.m. at the Highway Patrol's Southbound Weigh Station on 1-77 in Surry County. Reuben Young, Secretary of the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, Colonel Walter Wilson, Commander of the Highway Patrol and a representative from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will speak at the event.
