“Trooper Deal's actions made a difference on April 5, 2008, when he assisted a man that was found unconscious behind a burning house on Peach Orchard Road in Rowan County. He administered CPR until EMS arrived,” said Young. “He is to be commended for his actions.”

On April 5th, Trooper Deal responded to a fire call at a residence on Peach Orchard Road in Rowan County. He located a man unconscious at the rear of the house and administered CPR until EMS arrived.

“Trooper Deal demonstrated good judgment by administering CPR until EMS arrived. This level of service exemplifies what it means to be a State Trooper—to serve others,” said Colonel Walter J. Wilson, Jr., Highway Patrol Commander.

The Commendation Award is the Department's second highest award for heroism. The Commendation Award is presented to employees who prevent injury or death because of their actions.
