State Troopers Receive Awards

Reuben Young, secretary of the N.C. Department of Crime Control & Public Safety (CC&PS), will present Trooper Matthew Bunn and Trooper Leonard Crumpler with the Department's Commendation Award and the Highway Patrol's Samaritan Award in a ceremony on Tuesday, Feb 10th at 1:15 p.m. at the Pitt County Law Enforcement Officer's Association Building, Port Terminal Road, Greenville.

“These trooper's actions made a difference on August 6, 2008, when they assisted a lady choking in a vehicle on US 70,” said Young. “They are to be commended for their actions.”

On August 6th, Trooper Bunn and Trooper Crumpler observed a lady choking in a vehicle on US 70 in Carteret County. Both Troopers assisted the lady by administering the Heimlich maneuver.

“These troopers demonstrated good judgment by helping a lady that was choking and unable to breath. This level of service exemplifies what it means to be a State Trooper—to serve others,” said Colonel Walter J. Wilson, Jr., Highway Patrol Commander.

The Commendation Award is the Department's second highest award for heroism. The Commendation Award is presented to employees who prevent injury or death because of their actions.

Editor's Note: The award ceremony will be held Tuesday, Feb 10th at 1:15 p.m. at the Pitt County Law Enforcement Officer's Association Building, Port Terminal Road, Greenville. You are invited to attend and cover the story.
