STATE HIGHWAY PATROL EMPLOYEES RECEIVE DEPARTMENTAL AWARDS
GREENSBORO – Secretary Reuben F. Young of the N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety (CCPS), and Colonel Randy Glover, Commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, will present Troopers M. L. Mann, and T. G. Wilson with awards from the department and the Highway Patrol in a ceremony today at 1 p.m.
“Each of these employees is to be commended on their actions and contributions to the citizens of the state of North Carolina and to our department,” said Young.
Recipient and Award:
· Trooper M. L. Mann - will receive the CCPS Meritorious Award and the Highway Patrol Meritorious Award. Trooper Mann, along with several other members, participated in a crackdown on street racing in Guilford and Forsyth counties.
· Trooper T. G. Wilson - will receive CCPS Heroism Award and the Highway Patrol Award of Valor. Trooper Wilson rescued a motorist who was swept downstream after she attempted to cross a roadway that was flooded in Guilford County.
“Each Trooper went beyond the normal call of duty, and demonstrated outstanding judgment,” said Col. Glover. “This level of service exemplifies what it means to be a state employee - to serve others.”
The Meritorious Award is CC&PS's second highest award for meritorious service or achievement. The Meritorious Award is given by the Patrol to a member who serves the State of North Carolina in an outstanding manner. The Heroism Award is CCPS's highest award for heroism and is given only to those who have demonstrated judgment and courage that saved others. The Award of Valor is given an award bestowed to a member of the Patrol who went beyond the call of duty to aid or assist a fellow citizen which may have saved a life or prevented injury.
Editor's Note: The award ceremony will be held Wednesday, Sept 30, 1 p.m., at Tuscany Gardens, 6210 Technology Drive, Summit. You are invited to attend and cover the story.
