Four Butner Public Safety Officers Promoted

Raleigh – Four Butner Public Safety officers were promoted earlier this month. Donna Grissom and Donald Slaughter were promoted to captain, while Greg Lewis and James Rose were promoted to lieutenant.

“These officers have repeatedly demonstrated professionalism and leadership during their time here” said Butner Public Safety Chief Wayne Hobgood. “I look forward to working with them in this new capacity.”

Slaugther has been with the agency for 11 years. Grissom joined Butner Public Safety in 1998, while Lewis joined in 2001 and Rose in 2004.

All 49 officers within Butner Public Safety are uniquely certified as both police and firefighters since the agency provides police and fire protection for the town of Butner and it's state facilities. The former state-owned town was incorporated last summer.

Butner is home to several facilities operated by the state Department of Health and Human Services, including the John Umstead psychiatric hospital, the Central Region psychiatric hospital, the RJ Blackley Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center, the Murdoch Developmental Center and the Whitaker School, for emotionally-handicapped adolescents. The town also includes the North Carolina Department of Correction's Umstead Correctional facility and a North Carolina National Guard training facility.
