Butner Public Safety Gets New Look

Butner – Butner Public Safety will soon have a new look.  Beginning in June, the police and law enforcement agency which protects the town of Butner will have six new vehicles, including five cars and one sports utility vehicle.

“We want the community to know that even though we have a new look, we're still providing the same services we have for more than 25 years,” said Butner Public Safety Chief Wayne Hobgood.

Hobgood said the division would gradually replace the aging fleet with vehicles in the new design.

The new design features a black and gold graduated stripe along the side of the vehicle with the words ‘POLICE' and ‘Butner Public Safety' prominently displayed underneath.

A division of the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, Butner Public Safety provides full time police and fire protection for the town of Butner. Butner is home to several facilities operated by the state Department of Health and Human Services, including the John Umstead psychiatric hospital, the Central Region psychiatric hospital, the RJ Blackley Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center, the Murdoch Developmental Center and the Whitaker School, for emotionally-handicapped adolescents. The town also includes the multiple state and federal correctional facilities and a North Carolina National Guard training facility.
