State Troopers Receive Awards

LEWISVILLE— Bryan E. Beatty, secretary of the N.C. Department of Crime Control & Public Safety (CC&PS), will present Trooper Joshua Church and Trooper David Peterson with the Department's Commendation Award and the Highway Patrol's Samaritan Award in a ceremony on Thursday, July 24th at 2:00 p.m. at the Sunrise United Methodist Church in Lewisville.

“These trooper's actions made a difference on March 31st when they assisted a lady choking in a local restaurant,” said Beatty. “They are to be commended for their actions.”

On March 31st, Trooper Church and Trooper Peterson observed a lady choking in a local restaurant in Rural Hall.  Both Troopers assisted the lady by administering the Heimlich maneuver.

“These troopers demonstrated good judgment by helping a lady that was choking and unable to breath. This level of service exemplifies what it means to be a State Trooper—to serve others,” said Colonel Walter J. Wilson, Jr., Highway Patrol Commander.

The Commendation Award is the Department's second highest award for heroism. The Commendation Award is presented to employees who prevent injury or death to others.

Editor's Note: The award ceremony will be held Thursday, July 24th at 2:00 p.m. at the Sunrise United Methodist Church in Lewisville.
