Highway Patrol to Conduct Weight Enforcement Crackdown in Western North Carolina
The Highway Patrol will conduct a weight enforcement crackdown in Madison and Buncombe Counties beginning Tuesday, November 6th at 6:00 a.m. and ending Thursday, November 8th at 6:00 p.m. The crackdown will target commercial motor vehicles traveling on the highways exceeding weight regulations.
Each day big trucks take alternate routes to avoid weigh stations and these overweight vehicles damage the integrity of the highway infrastructure. This crackdown is an effort to aggressively enforce the weight laws and all other laws and regulations pertaining to motor carrier vehicles. Troopers will target trucks exceeding weight regulations with an emphasis on commercial motor vehicle driver violations, and unsecured load violations.
The goal of the crackdown is to reduce collisions involving big trucks and other vehicles. Troopers will conduct safety inspections on commercial motor vehicles at the rest area and other locations in Madison and Buncombe Counties during the operation.
A press event will be held on Tuesday, November 6th, at 1:00 p.m. at the North Carolina Welcome Center on I-26 in Madison County. Bryan Beatty, Secretary of the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, Colonel Fletcher Clay, Commander of the Highway Patrol and Mr. John Sullivan, Division Administrator for the Federal Highway Administration in Raleigh will speak at the event.
