Highway Patrol to Conduct Weight Enforcement Crackdown in Orange County

The Highway Patrol will conduct a weight enforcement crackdown in Orange County beginning Tuesday, August 14th at 6:00 a.m. and ending Thursday, August 16th at 6:00 p.m.

The crackdown will target commercial motor vehicles avoiding the Hillsborough Weigh Station on I-40. Each day big trucks take alternate routes to avoid the weigh stations and these overweight vehicles damage the integrity of the highway infrastructure. This crackdown is an effort to aggressively enforce the weight laws and all other laws and regulations pertaining to motor carrier vehicles.

Troopers will target trucks exceeding weight regulations with an emphasis on commercial motor vehicle driver violations, and unsecured load violations. The goal of the crackdown is to reduce collisions involving big trucks and other vehicles. Troopers will conduct safety inspections on commercial motor vehicles at the weigh station and other locations in Orange County during the operation.

A press event will be held on Tuesday, August 14th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hillsborough Weigh Station (westbound lanes) in Orange County. Bryan Beatty, Secretary of the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, Colonel Fletcher Clay, Commander of the Highway Patrol and Mr. Chris Hartley, Division Administrator with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will speak at the event.
