Operation Buckle-Up
The Highway Patrol will conduct Operation Buckle-Up 2007 to crackdown on motorists who are unbuckled on North Carolina highways.
The operation will be conducted statewide, with a concentrated effort in the southeastern part of North Carolina, beginning Monday, September 10th and ending Sunday, September 23rd.
Currently the seatbelt compliance rate is 88.6 percent statewide. “Buckle-Up 2007” is a Patrol initiative that addresses this concern. The goal is to raise the voluntary compliance rate to over 90 percent in North Carolina in order to reduce traffic fatalities.
Two press events will be held on Monday, September 10th. The first press event will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Airborne Museum located on Hay Street in Fayetteville. The second press event will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Kenan Auditorium located at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Bryan Beatty, Secretary of the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, Ms. Rhonda W. Simmons, and Mr. Richard George Jr. will speak at the event in Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. Richie Bonomo will speak at the event in Wilmington. Ms. Simmons, Mr. George, Mr. and Mrs. Bonomo will all speak on the importance of wearing seatbelts.
