Secretary Beatty Names Chief Deputy Secretary of CCPS
Raleigh - Crime Control and Public Safety Secretary Bryan Beatty named Major General Gerald Rudisill, Jr. as the new chief deputy secretary of the department, effective Sept. 1. He replaces William Dudley who retired Aug. 17.
Rudisill has served as deputy secretary for the past four years, overseeing the operations of the Division of Emergency Management, Alcohol Law Enforcement and the Civil Air Patrol. He will continue oversight of those divisions, along with Butner Public Safety in his new position.
Prior to coming to the department, Rudisill served as primary advisor to the chairman and the Joint Chiefs of Staff on National Guard matters in the pentagon. He served as the adjutant general of the N.C. National Guard from 1993 to 2001.
"General Rudisill has been a trusted advisor during his tenure here and is an exceptional leader in military and civilian affairs,” Beatty said. “His familiarity with emergency management operations, disaster response and homeland security issues continues to be a tremendous asset for our department.”
A Badin native, Rudisill, graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in political science in 1966. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Army as a 2nd lieutenant and served in Vietnam where he attained the rank of 1st lieutenant. Upon completion of active duty in July 1968, Rudisill began his service with the Army National Guard, receiving his first promotion to the rank of captain in 1970.
Rudisill, who has had extensive sales and operational management experience in the health care field, was a regional manager for APRIA Healthcare from 1988 until 1993. In 1993, Rudisill was named adjutant general of the N.C. National Guard and was responsible for commanding the 10,000 members of the Army National Guard and the 1,500 members of the Air National Guard.
Rudisill has received numerous awards and decorations including the Distinguished Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Legion of Merit.
Rudisill and his wife, Sue, have a son, Brian, daughter-in-law, Tricia, and granddaughter, Elizabeth.
