Butner Public Safety's Gang Awareness Forum

BUTNER – Butner Public Safety and other local law enforcement agencies are hosting a gang awareness forum on Thursday, June 8, at the Butner Stem Middle School cafeteria to discuss how to identify gangs and gang activity in the community.

“We are reaching out to parents, schools, church groups, and community watch organizations to talk to them about the growing gang problem across the state, and how identify and prevent any gang violence in our own community,” said Butner Public Safety Director Wayne Hobgood. “We want to ensure that the town of Butner will not be disturbed by trendy teen violence. Our theme is: "To say no to gangs...one must know gangs."

The forum is scheduled from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Speakers include Lt. Johnny Hawkins from N.C. Dept. of Correction, Polk Youth Center. Other speakers are from the Durham County Sheriff's Department's gang unit, and the Durham City Police gang unit.
