Media Advisory

BURLINGTON - The Crime Victims' Services committee of the Governor's Crime Commission meets Aug. 10-11 at the Village at Brookwood, starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday and ending at noon on Friday.

The committee is meeting in Alamance County to highlight the positive impact of a coordinated community response and to show how good funding decisions can improve services to crime victims.

Topics to be discussed on Thursday will focus primarily on domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse victimization issues. Panelists include current or very recent grantees from the Alamance District Attorney's office, the Alamance County Sheriff's Office, the Burlington and Graham police departments, the local Family Abuse Services, CrossRoads (a local sexual assault program), and the Dept. of Social Services.

Other participants who have been invited include practitioners from Legal Aid, the Women's Resource Center, local therapists and faith-based agencies. The committee will ask them to give an overview of the issues that most need to be addressed in Alamance County.

On Friday, the committee will discuss 2007 funding priorities and a legislative agenda.
