STATE TROOPERS RECEIVE DEPARTMENTAL AWARDS
RALEIGH— Bryan E. Beatty, secretary of the N.C. Department of Crime Control & Public Safety (CC&PS), and Colonel W. Fletcher Clay, Commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, will present several Departmental awards during a ceremony today at the Highway Patrol's Training Academy.
Two recipients will receive the Department's Division Award, eight recipients will receive the Highway Patrol's Meritorious Service Award, and one will receive the Department's Samaritan Award.
“Each of these troopers is to be commended on their actions and contributions to the citizens of the state of North Carolina and to our Department,” said Beatty.
Trooper and Award:
Major J. J. Hatcher and Captain K. M. Castelloe- Department of Crime Control and Public Safety Division Award. Major Hatcher and Captain Castelloe streamlined the internal affairs investigative process.
Major M. R. Johnson, Captain J. K. Glidewell, Lt. J. L. Babb, Lt. Everett Clendenin and Sergeant W. A. Moore- Highway Patrol's Meritorious Service Award. Major M. R. Johnson, Captain J. K. Glidewell, Lt. J. L. Babb, Lt. Everett Clendenin and Sergeant W. A. Moore created and implemented Operation Slow Down.
First Sergeant T. M. Poulin, Trooper T. M. Koehler and Trooper E. R. Yarbrough- Highway Patrol's Meritorious Service Award. First Sergeant T. M. Poulin, Trooper T. M. Koehler and Trooper E. R. Yarbrough were instrumental in the successful completion of the CALEA reaccreditation process and the Patrol receiving Flagship Agency status.
Trooper B. L. Varnell- Department of Crime Control and Public Safety Samaritan Award. Trooper Varnell pulled a lady from the path of an approaching vehicle, possibly saving her life.
“Each Trooper went beyond the normal call of duty, and demonstrated outstanding judgment. This level of service exemplifies what it means to be a State Trooper—to serve others,” said Colonel W. Fletcher Clay, Highway Patrol Commander.
