The exercise allowed National Guard leaders to simulate a statewide response to a hurricane. Leaders planed movement of critical supplies, coordinated evacuation and relief convoys by Soldiers and Airmen from across the state.
The purpose of the exercise was to practice NCNG hurricane response. The N.C. National Guard's unique hurricane response capabilities include bringing heavy lift vehicles, UH-60 Blackhawks, C-130 Cargo Aircraft, generators and field communications rapidly to effected areas. Guard Soldiers and Airmen have years of experience responding to hurricanes with over 5,000 deploying for Hurricane Fran in 1996 and 6,000 for Hurricane Floyd in 1999.
