N.C. Air National Guard Colonel Robert Stonestreet Promoted to Brigadier General
RALEIGH - In a ceremony Nov. 3 at the Legislative Building, Albemarle native Col. Robert M. Stonestreet was promoted to Brigadier General and assumed the duties of chief of staff, North Carolina Air National Guard.
A 36-year Guard veteran serving full time since 1980, Stonestreet took the oaths of office in the third floor auditorium of the North Carolina Legislature Building in downtown Raleigh. The Chief of Staff, North Carolina Air National Guard (NCANG) provides leadership and management to the Joint Force Headquarters-State Air Staff. The Chief of Staff, North Carolina Air National Guard will ensure all NCANG units maintain required levels of readiness, and serves as a force provider of ANG capabilities to the State's Joint Task Force.
Stonestreet began his military career in 1970 when he enlisted in the North Carolina Air National Guard. He received his officer's commission in 1979.
In his military career, Stonestreet has served, with ever increasing responsibilities, as a maintenance officer, chief of maintenance, director of operations, squadron commander, group commander, vice wing commander and vice chief of staff.
His awards and decorations include North Carolina National Guard Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Combat Readiness Medal with one device, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with four oak leaf clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two devices, Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
An Appalachian State alumni, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1973 and a Master of Arts in Economics and Business in 1974. His military education includes Academy of Military Science Commissioning Program in 1979, Squadron Officer School in 1984, Air Command and Staff College in 1990 and Air War College in 1994.
