High Point Based N.C. Guard Soldiers Returning From Iraq Monday Morning



 

Soldiers of A Battery, 5th Battalion, 113th Field Artillery Regiment headquartered in High Point, will return to N.C. meeting their families at the Providence Place Conference Center, 1701 Westchester Dr. in High Point, at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 28

 

A Battery, 5th Battalion, 113th Field Artillery Regiment was called to federal active duty in May 2005 when the unit was activated for Operation Iraqi Freedom.  The Soldiers trained at Ft. Mclennan, Ala. in transportation operations. The unit then deployed as Alpha Battery 5th Battalion of 113th Truck Company Provisional for further training at Camp Adeberry, Ind.  

 

The Soldiers of A Battery, 5th Battalion, 113th Field Artillery Regiment drove over 7.5 million miles transporting nearly 140 thousand tons of supplies throughout the theatre.  The Soldiers completed over 240 missions.  Eighty-Five Soldiers earned a Combat Action Badge for “actively engaging or being engaged by the enemy” and one Soldier was awarded the Purple Heart for “being wounded or injured as a direct result of hostile enemy action”.
