STATE TROOPERS RECEIVE DEPARTMENTAL AWARDS


 

RALEIGH— Bryan E. Beatty, secretary of the N.C. Department of Crime Control & Public Safety (CC&PS), and Colonel W. Fletcher Clay, Commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, will present Sergeants J. D. Aiken, and W. B. Thaxton and Troopers R. B. Britt, R. G. Ezzell, D. J. Cianfarra, M. J. Tribula and Mr. Jerry Massey with awards from the Department and the Highway Patrol in a ceremony on Friday, June 24, 2005.

“Each of these troopers is to be commended on their actions and contributions to the citizens of the state of North Carolina and to our Department,” said Beatty.

Trooper and Award: 

Trooper R. B. Britt- Department of Crime Control and Public Safety Meritorious Award and the Highway Patrol Samaritan Award
Trooper Britt assisted a motorist suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Sergeant J. D. Aiken- Department of Crime Control and Public Safety Meritorious Service Award and the Highway Patrol Samaritan Award Sergeant Aiken assisted with the delivery of a baby. 

Sergeant W. B. Thaxton, Trooper R. G. Ezzell- Highway Patrol Samaritan Award
Sergeant Thaxton and Trooper Ezzell assisted with the evacuation of employees at the West Pharmaceutical fire.

Trooper D. J. Cianfarra, Trooper M. A. Tribula- Highway Patrol Award of Valor
Troopers Cianfarra and Tribula risked their lives assisting with the evacuation of employees at the West Pharmaceutical fire.

Mr. Jerry Massey- Certificate of Recognition – State Employee Incentive Bonus Program
Mr. Massey introduced a procedure which has been adopted to improve operations and save money within State Government.

“Each Trooper went beyond the normal call of duty, and demonstrated outstanding judgment. This level of service exemplifies what it means to be a State Trooper—to serve others,” said Colonel W. Fletcher Clay, Highway Patrol Commander.

The Meritorious Award is CC&PS’s second highest award for meritorious service or achievement. The Highway Patrol’s Award for Valor is the Patrol’s highest award for bravery. The Highway Patrol’s Samaritan Award is the Patrol’s second highest award for bravery. The Certificate of Recognition is given to state employees whose suggestions are adopted within state government.
