RE: McGuire Nuclear Power Station Emergency Exercise
The State of North Carolina; the counties of Cabarrus, Catawba, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Mecklenburg; and Duke Power will participate in an exercise of the emergency response plans for the McGuire Nuclear Power Station near Charlotte on August 9, 2005. The exercise is conducted every two years to test emergency procedures at the plant and in county and state government agencies.
The public will not be required to participate in the exercise and there will be no disruption of regular activities.
The sirens in the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) around the plant will not be sounded during this exercise. In a real emergency, the sounding of the sirens would be a signal that residents should tune to the Emergency Alert System on radio and television for further information.
