ALE DIRECTOR ROBERTSON elected TO National crime Board

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. – Alcohol Law Enforcement Director Mike Robertson was elected to the N.C. board of the Regional Organized Crime Information Center (ROCIC) at the June 2004 Conference.

As a board member, Robertson represents local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, which are all members of ROCIC. Robertson was first elected to the board in 1996 and has served as chairman, vice-chairman and secretary.

ROCIC Director James T. Rogers said, “It is a pleasure to have Mike Robertson represent the state of North Carolina on the ROCIC board.  He brings with him a plethora of law enforcement expertise and I look forward to the success that ROCIC will achieve by having Mike on the board.”

Robertson was recognized for his efforts in helping to create the first nationwide connectivity of criminal intelligence database using the latest web-based technology for the criminal justice community.  This database, called RISSNET, allows law enforcement officers to communicate with each other to assist in the investigation of criminal activity committed by traveling criminals.  The RISSNET database recently merged with the FBI’s Law Enforcement Online database and was named as the backbone for sensitive communication capabilities in the National Criminal Intelligence Sharing Plan.

Director Robertson began his law enforcement career in 1971 as an officer with the Carolina Beach Police Department and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department.  He joined the North Carolina Highway Patrol in 1973 where he served with that agency until 1979.

Robertson then joined the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation where he rose through the ranks to the position of assistant director prior to his retirement in 2001.  After retirement from the SBI, he was employed as a security consultant for Risk Management Associates of Raleigh.  He was named director of the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division in October 2002.
