TWO STATE TROOPERS STRUCK ON I-95

RALEIGH- Two State Troopers conducting a traffic stop on I-95 at 7:00 a.m. this morning were struck by a pick-up truck. Trooper A. R. Digiovanni and Trooper J. E. Clark had a vehicle stopped northbound in Johnston County near the 84 mile marker which is near Four Oaks. Witnesses state that a pick-up registered in Florida drifted off of I-95 and swiped the first Patrol vehicle and rear ended the second Patrol vehicle.

Both Troopers were transported to WakeMed for treatment. Their injuries are not life threatening.

Preliminary investigation reveals that driver fatigue may have contributed to the collision. Charges are pending against the driver of the pick-up truck.

Note: Trooper Digiovanni has been employed since 1989, he is 35 and is assigned to Raleigh. Trooper Clark has been employed since 1994, he is 34 and is assigned to Raleigh.

No further details at this time.
