RE: State Highway Patrol Memorial Service

In keeping with the recognition of National Police Week and Police Officer Memorial Day, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol will hold its annual Memorial Service tonight to honor those members killed in the line of duty. The ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. on the grounds of the SHP Academy, 3318 Garner Road, Raleigh.

Current members of the Highway Patrol will honor the 57 members of the State Highway Patrol who have died in the line of duty since 1929 with the Recognition of Lights. Fifty-seven Patrol cars will encircle the SHP Memorial. As each deceased member's name is called, a trooper will turn on the blue lights of a Patrol car. The Recognition of Lights ceremony will be followed by the laying of the wreath at the Memorial and a 21 gun salute.

You are invited to attend and cover these ceremonies. If you have any questions, please contact my office at (919) 733-5027.
