RE: Highway Patrol to Crackdown on Aggressive Driving on I-40 and I-85 in Guilford and Alamance Counties

On September 6, 2002, the Highway Patrol will be conducting a speed reduction campaign on I-40 and I-85 in Guilford and Alamance Counties to combat aggressive driving. This will be a continuation of the speed reduction campaigns on the interstate systems. Troopers from surrounding counties will converge on these interstates focusing on the true aggressive driver. The aggressive driver has been identified as those drivers who flagrantly violate the motor vehicle laws, including but not limited to: excessive speeding, following too closely, erratic lane changes, safe movement violations, and other forms of reckless endangerment.

Aggressive drivers account for the majority of the traffic collisions that occur on the state roadways. Troopers will be using Camaros, unmarked patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and helicopter units for this campaign.
