Alcohol Law Enforcement Division's 117 agents are responsible for enforcing laws pertaining to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, bingo and video poker. This section includes laws on the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol and the punishments that may be incurred when those laws are broken. It includes the laws on sale of tobacco to minors, bingo laws and gambling laws.

G.S. 18B-100 establishes a uniform system of control over the sale, purchase, transportation, manufacture, consumption, and possession of alcoholic beverages in North Carolina. The law states that the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages is forbidden except as expressly authorized.
